Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetite. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin.

Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him. When Mary Luce is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world, she must rely on Rhage's protection. Knowing that Mary feels the same intense animal attraction, Rhage must make her his alone...

Two hearts that want to beat as one are divided by so much that the strength of their love, their courage is tested to the ultimate and will the sacrifices be worth the reward?

How can I begin to put in words what my thoughts and feelings are about this book? The story of Rhage and Mary will forever be burned in my memory, that's all I know right now! Besides the new characters whom are introduced throughout the story, the suspense and action, the evil that rises again and other story lines are created, it is above all a love story. And not just any love story, this is pure emotions dripping from the pages, strength, courage, love, faith…..it flows from the pages into your mind and burns a mark on you as a reader. The Brotherhood has captured me within every way I can be captured as a reader, each one makes me hungry for their story and as each one is told it becomes a treasured one. The talent of J.R. Ward shines bright!

Rhage sucked in a breath. In all his adult life, no female had ever called him a friend. Or valued his company for something other than sex. In the Old Language, he whispered, "I am barren of words, my female. For no sounds from my mouth are worthy of your hearing."

His free hand dipped under her butt, tucked her closer, and then his erection pushed into her, hitting the right place. She could feel the head of him probing through his pants and her pajama bottoms. "Say it, Mary." He surged forward again and she groaned. "You want me." "And let's just make sure you remember that, shall we?"
