I have stumbled on a few Historical novels and one Paranormal novel from authors I really want to give a go in 2009. They are giving a callingcard I can hardly resist and have to accept. I will add to this list as I stumble on to more authors whom are new to me, or perhaps are debuting this year. So this list will remain active throughout the year!

For many privileged young women, Versailles is a paradise. For others, it is a gilded and bejeweled cage of oppression. Jeanne Yvette Mas du Bois is unlike most courtiers and the flavor of decadence tastes bitter upon her tongue. When Jeanne saves a Musketeer's life, she is mistaken for a man and admitted to an inner circle where she learns of an assassination plot against the Queen--and falls in love with a man she can never have. Now, with the Queen in jeopardy, and her own double life making her privy to the tangled intrigues at court, Jeanne is in a powerful yet increasingly perilous position. Jeanne fights against an arranged marriage to a weak, ineffectual, effeminate man of her father's choosing; she fights against a small, dedicated group of Musketeers to save the life of the Queen of France; and she fights for the true love of her life.

Summary:
The Kinds of Wanting is a sensual medieval romance set in England during the civil wars of King Stephen’s reign. In it, a defeated king, a dying prince, and mysterious treasure converge in an emotional maelstrom in twelfth century England. At the center lies an intrigue that will rock a medieval kingdom and pit honor against greed, love against vengeance.
Griffyn ‘Pagan’ Sauvage is a reluctant hero. He has kept his vows simple: reclaim his beloved home, lost seventeen years ago in a coup of the English crown, and wreak his vengeance upon the man who stole it, John de l’Ami.
Guinevere de l’Ami, countess of Everoot since her father died two weeks ago, is committed to only one thing: redemption.
Then, one fateful night changes everything. A midnight rescue on the king’s highway results in a single night of passion and a despair-defying connection neither ever hoped to find.
Their reunion, a year later, follows betrayals and oaths and a bloody invasion. Misdirected loyalties, cold vows of revenge, age-old legacies and death-bed promises conspire to harden their hearts and threaten their last chance to ever trust in love again.

Leontine,
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see my debut historical, The Conqueror, on your list! I'm just like you, a voracious reader, so I hope my story helps feed your obsession. :-)
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Happy New Year!

Arfff... two more titles for the ever expanding wishlist. I am really into historic novels at the moment so the Emerson and Kennedy go on my wishlist. Tudor period is always interesting. And not many writers write about the time of Stephen and Maude so hope there is a bit of history in that one!!!
ReplyDeleteMieke
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI love those Zebra debuts Kris, unfortunately I never seem to be able to find a list where all of the 2009 Zebra Debut releases are summed up. But then again, they always surprise me so when I do find them!
And as I write this message my hubby gives me an envelope...opening it...and it contains an ARC copy of Vanessa Kelly's Mastering The Marquess for my co-owned website; Realms On Our Bookshelves LOL Such a wonderful treat!
Anyway Kris, who doesn't love those medieval warriors or settings? I know I have devoured quite a few of those novels in my years of reading and I will always have a weak spot for them :D
I will add the release of The Conqueror to my calendar and trip back to our Realms forum with your book info LOL
And may your year be full of love, laughter, joy and health!
Hugs,
Leontine
Leontine,
ReplyDeleteI know--they should have a list of the Debut authors.
You know there is a Yahoo group made up of many of the Debut authors?
You can join at this link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zebradebutauthors/
and hear some of their latest news, and chat with them, if you wish.
Now, I've got to head over and check out your website, Realms on Our Bookshelves.
Vanessa Kelly is a good friend of mine, and apparently much better at marketing than I. :-) I hope you enjoy her book!
Dawn Halliday is a friend too (wow--I hadn't realized it was such a small world LOL) So I hope you love hers when it comes out too!
Mieke~ Yay that you popped me on your wishlist! That's so exciting to hear. Hope you love it.
You girls have made my day. :-)
~ Kris
Leontine! Thanks so much for mentioning MASTERING THE MARQUESS - I'm thrilled. And so glad the ARC arrived safely.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't wait to read THE CONQUERER! That Kris Kennedy is a very talented gal.
Vanessa
Hi Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by!! We always try to keep a close watch on debuting authors at the Realm boards and Zebra debuts is a well known book print with our members.
Between the three of you, Kris Kennedy - Vanessa Kelly & Dawn Halliday, I have added a medieval romance novel, a regency set historical novel and a highlander romance novel, not to shabby to start 2009 with LOL
If you know of more authors with debuting books or releases in 2009 please feel free to leave a link or information. I will have such a blogpost each month to highlight books of interest!
Hugs and have a wonderful evening.
Leontine
Wow, it was so exciting to see HIGHLAND OBSESSION listed! Thanks so much, Leontine!
ReplyDeleteMy alter-ego, Jennifer Haymore, has a historical romance coming out this year as well. You can read more about A HINT OF WICKED at:
http://www.jenniferhaymore.com/bookshelf/
You listed some new authors for me as well, so I'm writing them down...and I've already been tapping my fingers in impatience for Kris and Vanessa's books! :)
Hi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by, I read the summary of your novel: Highland Obsession and all bells and whistles went off.
I just love the backdrop of the dramatic Highlands and the clans *sighing dreamily*....if only I could have my wish and spent 7 days in Scotland of a few hundred years ago...I want my mountain Highlander with thick brogue and wicked intensions ;-)
Do you think my feet will touch the ground as I remember my European history lessons of how people lived in those days?? I think I'll rather read about Cam, Alan & Sorcha LOL
Hugs,
Leontine
Leontine ~
ReplyDeleteI was suddenly struck my one of your comments--that you didn't know where to find a list of all Debut releases--and I suddenly realized I knew the answer!
LOL
Who knows why it took me almost 3 months, then out of the blue, I remembered both your question and the answer.
The mind is a funny thing . ..
Fellow Deb author Kim Killion has a list on her website.

Kris,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the link, I always surf the web to find info but with links like these I can use my time for other things...like reading LOL
And when I visited the link to the author's website I thought...she sounds familiar with her novel. It turns out I have Kimberly Killion's Her One Desire already on my shelves *rolling eyes*
