Guest Post: Teal Ceagh on romance and sex.

Sera’s Gift is out – today! – and I’m so pleased that Leontine was kind enough to host me on this special day.

I’m madly typing at sonic speed actually, because I boobed – I overlooked actually writing my guest post until Leontine gently nudged me this morning and pointed out I hadn’t written my post. I was so laid back, thinking I had everything under control...that’s the problem when you have two books coming out virtually on top of one another – things tend to go to pieces a little and get flaky around the edges.

So as soon as I opened up her email and got that awful stomach drop (you know that sensation?) I opened up a Word file and started typing, and now you’ve caught up with my cursor, and my thoughts.

Believe it or not, I do have something useful to say. There was a gentleman, Alan Elsner, who declared on the Huffington Post on December 2nd that the romance genre was a woman’s right to pornography, but his books elevated romance to high art. Smart Bitches, Trashy Books were given the opportunity to rebutt, so I won’t get into how stupid I think he is here, but he does give me the chance to point out that I think romance – and sex -- is hard wired into everything we do. It’s what drives us as a species to keep regenerating, when you get right down to the genetics of it, so even when you think you’re just doing business, you’re probably not – somewhere in there sex and romance is on your mind. I heard – and this is years ago now – that men have a sexual thought every three seconds.

For that reason I found it impossible not to marry (there’s another sex-ladened term) together my two favourite genres: erotic romance and urban fantasy.

And that’s how I arrived where I am today, the third and last instalment of Destiny’s Trinities, Sera’s Gift.

Mia’s Return and Sera’s Gift are being released so close together, I’m doing a double-header book tour.

Mia's Return by Teal Ceagh

Ten years ago, Alexander hungered for Mia Menendez and for a single day they had indulged that passion before tragedy struck. Now Mia is back, but she thinks Alexander died ten years ago and no man has been able to stir her heart since. The truth could kill her.

Wyatt Whitacker, demon hunter, hates Alexander and all his kind. But one look at Mia and her pulse-stopping curves and his scarred, angry heart begins to melt and his body to rouse in ways he’s long forgotten.

The bonding has begun…

Sera’s Gift by Teal Ceagh

Sera arrives in New York to help Lindál, but a vampeen attack brings her face to face with two men and changes her life forever.

Diego Savage lives up to his name. Cynical, rebellious and a womanizer, he doesn’t believe in the trinities at all. Only a handful of people know the truth about his scarred heart and terrible past, and it would take a miracle for him to change. A miracle, or someone like Sera with her special gift.

Blake Harvey, dedicated NYC police lieutenant, takes one look at the tall, supple woman with the crystal blue eyes and glowing skin and knows his life is about to change in ways he can’t even define, but his body is already responding to with a power that is hard to deny.

I’ve been reading Leontine’s blog for nearly a year now, and watched it grow from a single column jumble of eye candy mashed up with reviews (ah, bet she thought I didn’t remember!) to a three column blog that is one of the most popular on the net. I see her logo everywhere. (<- talk about a surprise when reading this rofl. I'm so embarrassed right now, that you witnessed all these changes from the beginning *eek*)

Giveaway:
Teal Ceagh has generously offered up a copy of BETH’S ACCEPTANCE. I'll pick a winner from the comments on December 12th. (Provide e-mail address if this is not part of your profile)

  1. These sound very exciting and super steamy. I also love covers that show a kick-butt heroine!

  2. Hi Teal,

I think that erotic romance and urban fantasy go perfectly together, and can't wait to get started on this series. BTW, having them come out so close together is a wonderful bonus for us readers.

  4. Hi! I was curious, so I read Mr. Elsner's post. He said that he hadn't read any romance novels in some time, so he checked out a bunch from the library. He then describes in graphic detail the "sex scenes" from the books. He never mentions which books he read. He also states: "In the romance novels I have read, love is expressed through sex and only through sex."

Mr. Elsner, just which books did you check out from the library? You obviously need help with your romance reading selections! Not everyone has the same set idea that you do of love and romance. That's why there are so many published authors with there own variety of the love, romance and sex theme!

  5. Hi Joder:

Thanks -- I love these covers! They're quite a bit different from the usual menage covers you get. I was thrilled when I saw them. And yes -- kick-butt heroines, all the way through!

  6. Hi Cathy! You found me! :)

I guess that's an upside to having them so close together, isn't it?

But I confess it does make me look like a bumbling idiot at times. No one would believe I was the straight A student today! ~shakes head~ I'm *very* short on sleep right now!!

  7. Hi Sandy:

Well, I can tell you I've been getting very good feedback from readers, and some great reviews. If you check out the reviews on my website (http://www.tealceagh.com), that'll give you some more feedback, and the buy links for all three books.

  8. Virginia -- there's also a post a few days later, a rebuttal post, from one of the ladies from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, who also got right into him as well.

I'm posting about his post tomorrow, too, and I'm making pretty much the same points you are...what books did he read? They don't seem to bear any relationship to modern romances!

  9. Ooh, a new series to add to my wish list! :D Can't wait to read your books, Teal, they sound like they should be very good-- really, erotica and urban fantasy together, can it get any better?

And this Mr. Elsner must either be out of his mind or he's reading the wrong romance books! *SIGH* Don't you hate when people assume the worst of the romance genre, without knowning one thing about it?

    Enjoy,
    TBQ

  10. Hi, TBQ -- I really do think he's reading the wrong books. Either that, or he's trying to stir up trouble to draw focus upon his own book. But I do grow tired of people slapping around the romance genre for their own amusement. It's a cheap shot, and they always miss the mark because they clearly don't understand romance or the people who read it.

    Thanks for your feedback, TBQ.

I'm starting to think, too, that I'm going to have to add a finisher book to the trilogy, a fourth "Finale" to wind up the series.

  14. I couldn't agree with you more when you write that 'romance – and sex -- is hard wired into everything we do'. And I don't care at all what this guy thinks because I love my romance - and it makes me happy ;)

Btw don't count me in for the giveaway. I already won a copy of Beth's Acceptance yesterday! Yay!!

  15. @Janna - You're quite the lucky gal this week, enjoy BETH'S ACCEPTANCE! And rock on sista...you're so right; we should read what makes us happy. Jeez, if I have a tough day or worked hard I want romance to give me a few hours of reading pleasure, period.

  16. By the way, totally off topic, I love your avatar, Leontine. Very cute.

  17. Blodeuedd: The eye candy is of a particularly good vintage here, I must admit.

I don't know where Leontine finds them, but they are handsome lads, one and all.

There was a really nice one that sticks in the memory, an Australian school teacher, I believe?

    Mmm....

  26. Hi VampFanGirl -- with your handle, it sounds like you should head over to my blog and vote on my poll (it's in the sidebar).

About the stomach drop: did you at least do well in your tests? I guess in the end, it's the results that count, right?

  28. Hi Ashleigh -- Thanks for visiting. When you're over at Huffington Post, also check out the SMART BITCHES, TRASHY BOOKS rebuttal post. It's pretty good, but pretty restrained.

I think Mr. Elsner needs more, and I posted my own comments on my blog, too.
