2010 and the challenges of 2011

2011 has started for me with igniting a serious “being annoyed” torch for a few government departments. Suddenly, as a widow, I’m declared a single lady again for various taxes and the paperwork it brings along… *rolls eyes* Though I’m partially provided for I have to look for a 20 hour job and dang it’s not the easiest thing to do in the current economic climate! I’ve decided to create a feature that will give me room to rant and rave about the 411 on the changes in my life.

Though I’m emotionally still very much all over the place going from crying my eye balls out, to missing Henry profoundly, to being very angry at the situation yet also trying to be strong enough and handle it all, I’m gradually starting to feel the need to blog again. I even read a few books in the last weeks; Steve Kluger with Almost Like Being In Love – Heidi Cullinan with Special Deliverance, and while I enjoyed both stories very much, I felt the love for reading burning again when I read Joey W Hill’s Ice Queen and the sequel Mirror To My Soul. Even though JWH writes very emotional stuff I feel like that woman truly understands the psyche of mankind. I love the character depth, the emotional display and interaction between the characters. I will do a shorter review version on all of these books when the mood strikes me.

At the beginning of 2010 I joined some challenges and the one I thought would be difficult to complete with all the other challenges is the one I accomplished by a landslide…the M/M reading challenge. With my e-reader the quantity of e-books sky rocketed on my e-shelves and became a treasured genre. My erotica challenge was completed as well but the Outlander / Royals Fantasy & Contemporary challenge are the ones I failed miserably in *eek* I decided to skip the challenges this year which leaves room on my sidebars to fill *grin*

2010 has also delivered me some awesome reads again, allowed me to discover some fantastic (debut) authors and though many challenges have to be faced in 2011 I hope to expand my horizon and share all the ups and downs with you.

Of course I have to give you my top 25 of 2010!

  4. I'm glad to hear your praise of Joey W. Hill! I will be starting The Vampire Queen's Servant soon (for a kinky book club!). It will be the first book I've read by her.

  5. I loved The Butterfly Tattoo, even though I cried an awful lot while I was reading it.

  6. It's good to see you reading and blogging again, I know it's a long process of ups and downs. May 2011 be good to you.

Love this list. I'm on pins and needles for Shadowfever, too.

  7. Happy New year Leontine. I also happy to see you reading again.

And I sure agree with Demon from the dark, it saved PNR for me

  8. I love the genre variety of your list, Leontine. You're much more adventerous than I am when it comes to my reads. Could be a good goal for me in 2011: Read more titles that I wouldn't otherwise read for whatever reason. ;)

And we have a book in common! PATIENCE. Sooooo freakin' good! I can't wait for what Valdez will come out with next and if its as good as PATIENCE, then I suppose I could wait another 5 years too.

Good luck with the job hunt!

    (((HUGS))) VFG

  9. I also like your list. Happy New Year and if you have to work I hope you find one that you'll look forward to doing every minute of every day. Good Luck in the new year!

  10. Happy New Year Leontine. It's so good to see you blogging again. You have been in my thoughts so much through the holidays. Good luck on the job hunt. I lost my job in February 2010 and am still trying to gain employment again. I hope the job market improves soon for us both!

  11. Happy New Year Leontine. It is good to see you blogging again about books. I hope the new year brings you lots of great ones to escape into.

  12. Happy New Year!

I think for those of us who love to read the reading bug hits us at strange times. I've found I just have to go with the flow. :)

I loved Butterfly Tattoo as well as Almost Like Being in Love. Great books. I'll have to look into some of the others you have listed.

Good luck with the job hunting - hang in there, it's never fun.

  13. Happy New Year.
Its great seeing you blogging again.
I still have to check out a few of the books on your list.
    Take care.

  14. Happy New Year, Leontine! *hugs*

You have such a great list going there! I am sooo starting JWH's Vampire Servant series...soon...as soon as I overcome the money issue left over from the holidays! :)

The Butterfly Tattoo sounds so familiar, but I can't seem to place it. I'll have to look that one back up. And, Cole and Singh, are on my 2011 goals of series that I need to get caught up on!

  15. Thank you so much for adding me to your list, I'm really honored. Enlightened and Abandoned were both picked up by Dreamspinner Press. They and the four books that follow will be released through 2011 and 2012. I hope you'll like them as well. :)

    Have a wonderful 2011!

  16. Happy new year. I hope this will be a much better year for you with a nice job!

  19. Hi Leontine,
I loved Butterfly Tattoo. It was such an emotional read but it's on the top of my list along with Sandra Brown's Rainwater. Two books I actually picked up one day and I'm so glad I did. Two unexpected "hits" for me.
