Interview: J.P. Barnaby's Little Boy Lost party & Giveaway

Read my review of Enlightened - here - Abandoned - here - and Vanished - here

Last year one of the authors who rocked my readers world with at least an eight on the Richter scale then it is J.P. Barnaby with her Little Boy Lost series!! With each book she surprised me, endeared me, made me cry, made me talk to characters and got me all hot and bothered. I'm lovin' it every page and after reading VANISHED I just had to ask J.P. Barnaby some questions!

!!This interview contains a Q & A about all three books!!

1: What is the first thing you do in the morning. The first thing you check out online and never out of grabbing distance.

My iPad is never outside of my grabbing distance. In fact, it lays on the floor propped against my bed so that I can roll over and check my email and Twitter first thing in the morning.

2: When and what made you decide you were going to put the voices of Brian, Jamie and all the characters in the series to paper?

Little Boy Lost was started…God, in 2009 sometime while I was working on publishing The Forbidden Room. I can finally reveal the true inspiration for Little Boy Lost with the release of the third book. Several years ago, I read a four-part story written by Brent Corrigan talking about how he entered the industry and the controversy over being underage during several of his first scenes. That series of blog posts gave rise to the idea for Jamie Mayfield. The first book was written as Jamie’s backstory, and Brian was added to give the story an overall shape and purpose. I could not reveal that before the publication of the third book because that would have given away Brian’s entry to the industry.

3: Last year you self published Enlightened and it made quite some peeps in my blogger world start to buzz about this new gay erotic romance series. But for those readers who did not hear us rave *shockgaspshock* can you tell them what this series is about?

Little Boy Lost is the story of Brian McAllister and Jamie Mayfield, two teenage boys growing up gay in rural Alabama. When our story starts, Jamie is 17 and Brian just 16 but once they realize exactly what they mean to each other, they fight for their relationship through the rest of the series. Only Brian, Jamie and I know where they will end up and what challenges they face along the way, but I guarantee that it will not be an easy road.

4: How long does it approximately take you to write a novel and what do you do when the going gets tough? Anything I can offer to do? Bake chocolate muffins? Make a sorbet as a sinful nightly dessert? Make you laugh out loud with a picture of Dutch penis shaped salt and pepper shakers?? *grin*

So that the books can be uniformly released, I have a deadline with Dreamspinner Press to deliver each new installment at three-month intervals. It takes me about 10 weeks to write a 60k word novel, and two weeks to do revisions with my personal editorial team.

When the going gets tough, honestly, I go back through and read the reviews. To see how much people are counting on getting that next book on time, and how much they enjoy the series helps to keep me motivated. I also keep more than one project going at a time so that if I get stuck in one project, I can write for a while on another to get unstuck.

5: We would love to know about the quirks of an author. Do you have conversations with your characters? Do you get inspired in your dreams? Do you need everything in a certain order on your desk? Don’t hold back and reveal them all, we can keep a secret!

Quirks? I’m not sure I’m anything but quirks. Yes, I have conversations with my characters, we talk quite frequently. They whisper to me while at times when my mind is most relaxed like during a shower or right before I fall asleep. I keep a notebook with me at all times so that no matter what story I’m working on, if inspiration strikes, I’m ready. I think one of my stranger quirks is that I work on three or four projects at a time. While working on Vanished, for example, I also wrote two other short stories called Papi and Mastering the Ride. While I’m working on the fifth book in the series, I will also be working on another novel about quantum mechanics. I find that when I get stuck on one project, someone from another project is always talking.

I don’t watch TV – that’s an interesting quirk. I’m virtually clueless about modern pop culture. I know that shows like True Blood and Torchwood are popular because I see people talking about them on Twitter, but I’ve never seen them.

Remember – one person’s quirk is another person’s normalcy.

6: Where do you like to take your characters as an author before they reach a happily ever after? Do you like to emotionally torture them before they get a little happy time, or do they need to overcome great obstacles, or all of the above?

I think, to some extent, we are all emotionally tortured and I think fictional characters should not be exempt from that. One of my strongest beliefs in writing is realism. I want my characters and their situations to be plausible and believable.

7: Tell us about the sexing in the Little Boy Lost series. What kind of naughty times will the characters give the reader. We like it durty, we are adults so no need to hold back!! *grin*

It’s funny you should say that, because so many people consider the first and second books to be Young Adult, they are going to be pretty shocked by the third book. Some of the sexy times that you’ll see include – loss of virginity, toys, multiple partners, voyeurism and exhibitionism.

8: Can you give us the first and last sentence of each book published or a favorite quote from each one? You know we lurv to be teased!!

The Forbidden Room:

I felt the hot, sticky semen stream into my mouth and I swallowed around him, forcing myself to concentrate on breathing and swallowing, and nothing else. When he was finished, he pulled out slowly, my jaws aching when I could finally move them again. One tear slipped slowly down my cheek as I thought about what I had just done. Not only what I had done, but about how it had made me feel. Degraded but aroused, humiliated but almost willing to beg for more, it scared me how much I wanted it.

A House of Cards: Deconstructing Ethan:

Why had I agreed to go to brunch at my parents’ house? Why? I don’t like people. Even my parents aren’t all that fond of me. Last, but certainly not least, I’ll be shoe-horned back into Ethan Hughes. I haven’t been Ethan Hughes in so long; I don’t even know who he is anymore. I can’t concentrate, and I’m starting to panic at the thought of backyard brunch with the canapés, the false kindness and the frenzied rush to leave so you can talk behind other peoples‟ backs. And I know exactly what they’ll be talking about after this luncheon.

The freak they thought themselves all rid of.

The Perfect Tree:

“Look up Jayden, look at me,” he commanded, and the flash was blinding as he got a perfect picture of me in my thick leather collar. Fuck, I could come right then just from the look on his face, without him ever having touched my cock. The pride, the lust, the sheer fucking hunger in his expression, they were all for me.

His Heart’s Desire:

Luca broke the kiss and whispered to Matthew. “I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but for tonight…please, take me to bed.”

Matthew had never made love to anyone, man nor woman, and it made him hesitate. But Luca’s tongue probed his mouth again, and he realized the stab of loneliness that he had felt for so long was finally starting to ease.

Enlightened:

Slowly, he nodded, and I turned in his arms and led him over to the mattress. We didn’t need roses or candles or anything else to commemorate this moment. There in our sanctuary, by the light of battery-operated lanterns, on an old inflatable mattress, we would become one. We would consummate that promise of forever that I would hold foremost in my heart. No matter what else happened, whether we were discovered or not, we would forever have this moment.

Abandoned:

“Fuck… harder, baby.” My voice was strangled and hoarse as I followed my own request. After a moment, my fingers finally found that spot inside of me that Jamie had touched that night, and I stroked it, making my toes curl. I felt my orgasm start at the base of my spine, and everything tightened as white hot semen shot unencumbered over my stomach and chest. Groaning loudly as my orgasm peaked, I slowly pulled my hand from under me as I lay shaking. My face was covered in cold sweat, which I wiped away with a palm. Maybe exhausted enough to sleep, I turned, looking once again at the photo of Jamie next to my bed. His face was clear even in the moonlight filtering through my window.

“I love you, Jamie. I miss you so much.”

Vanished:

Emilio’s hand flew faster over his cock as I stroked myself harder and thought about unbuttoning my jeans. Just as I thought about how shocked that idea made me, a low whimper escaped my lips, and Emilio’s head turned to the side, his eyes finding mine. As he held my gaze, time seemed to stop.
“Come on, hon. You can come and play with us,” he said, every other word punctuated with a small grunt as Mike’s cock forced its way into his ass again and again. With a burning face and a throbbing cock, I turned and practically ran up the stairs.

And a few quotes for you from my upcoming books –

Papi (Coming August 10th):

“Papi, mas fuerte,” Jesse begged. He didn‟t want to think about how the kiss had made him feel, he just wanted to be fucked harder so that they could both come. Kyle understood either the words or the tone, because he pushed Jesse down roughly, his face against the blanket, and grabbed both of his hips.

“Make yourself come, I want to feel it,” Kyle growled as he pulled Jesse back with each thrust, taking him so deep and so hard that Jesse thought he felt him poking his stomach. Reaching down, Jesse grabbed his own cock and stroked it hard, twisting a little at the head, trying to bring that rush of pleasure he knew would come soon.

Mastering the Ride (Coming September 14th):

“That’s a good boy,” Nick murmured, stroking the boy’s hair. “You like being put on display by your Master, don’t you?” To his surprise, the boy looked directly at Wade and nodded. He couldn’t help myself and sat back against one of the padded tables, shifting his pants. Wade’s cock, which had filled rapidly with the boy’s spanking, was fully erect after that one sensuous look. He could imagine the little slut kneeling between his legs, giving him that very same slavish look. It had become uncomfortable and almost painful to be trapped in the confines of his briefs. Watching the show, Wade pulled his erection out of his pants and stroked it lightly.
9: I’m being mean; put the spotlight on one of your characters via this profile, you can include pictures if you want. *whispersmicahwhispers*

The inspiration for Micah Hanover came from Dru at Corbin Fisher. While Dru is a blond bombshell and Micah is a brunette, he is the one I think of when I write Mike. I love the way his personality comes through in each video he works on.

Age: 23
Height: 6’2”
Body build: Athletic
Hair: Short, brown
Eyes: Blue
Personality: Bubbly, outgoing, sweet, caring, fun loving and protective
Favorite outfit: Band t-shirt, shorts, sandals
Turn on: Voyeurism, Exhibitionism, Dirty Talking
Boxers or briefs: Neither – Mike is more of a commando guy.
Personal motto: If it feels good, keep doing it.

10: Can you give us a few juicy random facts about the Little Boy Lost series?

The first book in the series was originally self-published, and then I took the whole thing to Dreamspinner for their consideration. They contracted the entire series though only the first two books were completed at that time. It takes me approximately 10 weeks to finish each novel.

I added 10,000 words to Enlightened when Dreamspinner contracted it in order to keep the series at six books and not consolidate it into a three book series.

Gay adult model Devon Hunter has given me a wealth of detail in order to write the model side of the gay porn industry.

The character Brian contains a lot of my own social awkwardness and shy tendencies.

The personality for the character Leo is modeled after a real person.

I think the cover models selected for Brian and Jamie are dead on to what I’d imagined them as when writing.

The Little Boy Lost series will be between 300,000 and 350,000 words when it is complete.

The epilogue for each book is a third person point of view for the last scene of the book by one of the secondary characters.

Review: Lisa Kleypas - Suddenly You

website author - facebook - goodreads - twitter - buy

Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: Avon (May 29, 2001)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0380802325
ISBN-13: 978-0380802326
Read from my own personal library

Summary:
She was unmarried, untouched and almost thirty, but novelist Amanda Briars wasn't about to greet her next birthday without making love to a man. When he appeared at her door, she believed he was her gift to herself, hired for one night of passion. Unforgettably handsome, irresistibly virile, he tempted her in ways she never thought possible...but something stopped him from completely fulfilling her dream.

Jack Devlin's determination to possess Amanda became greater when she discovered his true identity. But gently-bred Amanda craved respectability more than she admitted, while Jack, the cast-off son of a nobleman and London's most notorious businessman, refused to live by society's rules. Yet when fate conspired for them to marry, their worlds collided with a passionate force neither had expected...but both soon craved.

My Review:

From the very first page, Suddenly You was an all-encompassing story of two intense and passionate characters. I started this book and took it everywhere with me for Jack Devlin and Amanda Briars would not let me go. The story is spectacular in its simplicity speaking about love, independence, strength and two imperfect people whom fit perfectly together in their journey of acceptance.

Lisa Kleypas has captured the essence of love for me with these two stunning characters and the tale they tell. Jack is so focused on his success as a publisher and the money he makes that the meeting with the vibrant Amanda takes him by surprise. They both want so much out of life. They want to live it on their own terms yet society tries very hard to control them with its etiquette and society structure. Still, Jack has a healthy lack for certain rules which is expected from a man with a scoundrel status. From the moment they meet it is a chemistry of emotions that results in a sexual energy that radiated from the pages. The dialogues were a verbal sparring of quick wit, strong personalities and intelligence. It lured me to read on and on, and before I realized it I finished the story. I felt utterly spellbound by the romance, the characters and the tale Lisa Kleypas told with Suddenly you!

As this is my first novel by Lisa Kleypas all I can say is that she delivered a high quality historical read that will speak to many readers in this genre. Suddenly You blends all the regency elements together with a high level of emotions and sizzling heat that resonated with me. The supporting cast of characters is one that I enjoyed meeting and told so much about the personality of both Jack and Amanda! It adds more depth and understanding to where they are coming from. All though there is no real plot in this novel it doesn’t need one for it speaks of a man and a woman with their thoughts, feelings and struggles, and that was all I needed!

With flair, passion, talent and unforgettable characters, Lisa Kleypas has written a story that became an instant favorite of mine!

IMMORTAL DEFENDER

Lisa’s notes on Defender:

Readers will remember Torvald as the silent, watchful, “monkish” fellow from Immortal Outlaw and Immortal Champion. But what they don’t know is that Torvald holds his tongue because of the dark past he’s hiding from everyone, most especially from the other men in the crew. But now voluble, lustful widow Josian Delamere has invited him into her bed. A straightforward romp is just what Torvald needs to loosen him up a bit and make him turn loose of his past mistakes, but things are never straightforward in Elizabethan England, especially not when the lady’s father is one of the most infamous Catholic rebels in the land. Find out what sort of trouble Torvald lands in with Josian in August 2012.
~~~~~~
Note:
Even for a prelimenary cover I find Immortal Defender already a coverlicious one! It is in the style of the previous covers in the Immortal Warrior series. Torvald is part of the Viking crew who got cursed to live forever as a were-creature...I would asume looking at the cover his is a stallion. Me likes this very much!! The only other were-stallion I know of resides in Kathryne Kennedy's Double Enchantment.
Note:
If there is one book that rocked my world last year it was Beyond Eden. I was beyond thrilled to come to understand Kele Moon was going to write a prequel to it with Paul and Danny. It instantly put this book on my most anticipated releases of 2011 list. There is no known release date yet but an excerpt is due soon :) YAY
Note:
Even though I still have to read #7 Fade To Midnight in the McCloud & Friends series the summary of Blood and Fire already rises my blood pressure. Mckenna is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors who knows how to write great, sexy but flawed men, likable heroine's and a plot that stirs me every single time. The villian is the epitome of evil and I can never wait till he/she gets his/her comeuppance!!
So far October looks like it's going to be a great release month!!
I'm really likin' this cover. The light versus the darkness, the beefake prominent in the picture and the blurb tickles the fancy as well. I remember, once upon a time, to have read a story of cynthia den but I think I will reacquaint myself with this author via Angel Of Darkness :)
ARC: Jennifer Estep - Touch Of Frost
website author - facebook - goodreads - twitter - series infobuy
Paperback, 359 pages
Release date: July 26th 2011 by
Kensington Publishing Corporation
ISBN: 0758266928 (ISBN13: 9780758266927)
Language: English.
Title: Touch of Frost
Series: Mythos Academy #1
I received an eARC for review from the author
Summary:
My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.
But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why—especially since I should have been the one who died. . .
My Review
When I read the blurb of Touch Of Frost, Jennifer Estep wooed me with myths, Spartans, Valkyries, stolen artifacts and a murder. The fact that this would happen at Mythos academy did not withhold me from getting excited. I normally do not gravitate towards YA in the PNR genre but I knew what Jennifer Estep could deliver! The start of Touch Of Frost was very Beverly Hills 90210. All the kids were fabulously wealthy, only wore designer clothes and off the chart good looking. Perhaps I'm showing my age here with this comment but the descriptions of Mythos' students just triggered the memory. It was my curiosity what these characters were made of underneath that veneer of superfiscialness that kept me from being a judge, jury and executioner of disliking them. Gwen Frost with her hoodies, quips and quirks however was the complete opposite of her peers and kept my eyes locked with the pages.
Gwendolyn Frost is down to earth, street smart, grieving over her mother and thrown in to a new school because she has to learn to handle her psychometric power. Gwen has a saviness next to her craving for sweets, teenage doubts and embarrassing moments which all turned her first person narrating in to something I easily gobbled up. While the internal dialogues sometimes focuses a bit too much on the questions surrounding her power it is also a part of the personality that is Gwen Frost. Jennifer Estep managed to create another protag who I instantly closed in to my heart and who kept me engaged in her trials and tribulations.
There were a plethora of characters introduced surrounding Gwen. Whenever I get bombarded with so many names I trust the author to make the characters distinctive enough throughout the story so that they become recognizable. This is exactly what Jennifer Estep did! Daphne Cruz seems every bit the fashion princess when I was introduced to her but underneath that veneer I found a very different person. One I liked for her acerbic and volatile personality. There was also the Spartan; Logan Quinn, the epitome of the teenage heartthrob and the boy your mother warned you of. Full of bad boy charm, flirtatious, handsome but there is a depth to him. Actions, dialogue, gestures or plain facial expressions sometimes contradict one another to make me wonder about Logan. Professor Methis, coach Ajax and librarian Nickamedes added to the cameo of major and minor characters. Professor Methis was the one who captivated me the most, there is something more to her that triggered my curiosity. When she told about the myths in class I read on with bated breath.
The author gradually constructed a story rife with mystery, myths, action and a dash of first time love but one of the highlights in Touch Of Frost is the superbly incorporation of myth. While it may be just a story of Loki, Nike and other gods and goddesses in the beginning, they and the notion of a second chaos war, gradually come to life. It affects Gwen's world in profound ways as mystery comes knocking on her door. I think there are a few things Jennifer Estep excels in and that is creating likable but flawed characters, great world building and a plot that always keeps a few surprises in the end. All of it was present again in Touch Of Frost! The plot may have a few stagnating moments but it ends with a bang where it was edge of your seat pulls pounding action.
Jennifer Estep drew me in with the voice of Gwen and kept me page bound from cover till cover. Each chapter took me deeper in to a world where every day stuff as high school hierarchy, crushes and making new friends joins with murder, pending war and every mythical faction you can imagine. It is an attention grabbing blend which fuels an incredible start of a new series! Touch Of Frost will enamor old and new fans of Jennifer Estep's imaginative talent.
Summary:
Stuck between a rock-solid man and a hard place…
Xtreme Adventures, Book Two
Melanie Dixon’s body may have recovered from a horrific climbing accident, but her nerve is long gone. So is the natural enthusiasm for life she took for granted. Tired of being scared, beyond ready to conquer her fears, she pulls up stakes and moves to her brother’s new hometown to start over. Her first step is the most terrifying—to tackle the wall at the local climbing center.
Derrick James is mesmerized by Melanie’s dark beauty, and equally impressed with her climbing abilities and determination. Watching her retune rusty skills spurs a desire to partner with her—on and off the ropes. Melanie’s a compelling mix of wit, sensuality and vulnerability, and it’s his delicious task to convince her the scars on her body are no match for the heat rising between them.
Then a man from Melanie’s past shows up, pushing their relationship to the edge. Nathan King wants photographs for a “where are they now” series, but his side agenda is more personal in nature. A proposal that brings her out of her sensual shell and onto a precarious sexual ledge. Where trust is crucial…and too easily shattered.
Warning: This book may cause heart-pounding, body-shaking adrenaline attacks—and that’s before they leave the climbing gym. Contains blindfolds, ropes and a healthy dose of voyeurism. Go on—you know you like to watch.
My Review
With Rising, Freestyle I was quickly wrapped up again in Vivian Arend’s ability to light a match to a combustible chemistry between two going on three characters. Derrick and Melanie hit it off from the get go but this time I was quickly ensnared by the trauma Melanie had to endure in the past. The story begins where Melanie is at a point in her life she wants to take back the reigns, she wants to climb again and she does this with the help of Derrick. With the stage set, circumstances revealed and a chemistry sizzling up a small storm between Melanie and Derrick while climbing a wall, I was very interested to see where this story would go.
Derrick James is charming, caring and virile specimen of the male gender. He is the kind of guy who immediately appeals to me because of how he both challenges and cares for his woman. Melanie is the center of the story with her trials and tribulations. The rock climbing, the chills of fear but also Melanie who is blossoming in to a confidant woman is something that was well portrayed. I accompanied her in every trial and tribulation which made me choke up one moment and reach for some ice cubes the next. The hunger Derrick feels for Melanie, voiced by Vivian Arend's writing style powered not only toe curling moments but also powerful emotions! Yet it is when Nathan King entered the stage where thing got even more interesting. His request and the situation developing from that is titillating to say the least. Also, I like it that Derrick and Nathan have a passionate but completely different role to fulfill, yet are equally focused on Melanie.
There were two factors in Rising, Freestyle that added a punch to the story. One was the fact Melanie was dealing with the emotional trauma of her accident and the fact her body had changed due to it. This storyline added depth to the developing romance I missed to some extend in the previous book. The second factor was Nathan King. He added a pizzazz, a flavor to the story without becoming an overbearing presence. That is the true role of a secondary character to me. He enhanced the personal and romantic development of the main characters, he amped up on the sexual heat and by the end Nathan was screaming for his own story.
The extra where every chapters began with the explanation of climbing slang added to the vibe of the story and at the same time I picked up on a few new things. Who knew Rope Gun was slang title for the climber who does all the leading? Or that a Crux is the hardest move on a route? I didn’t!! I like this attention to small details and show either the knowledge or research from the author.
Rising, Freestyle is a fantastic summer read full of lively characters, spine tingling sexual tension, humor and a good dose of emotions. It all worked like a charm!!
4 stars
She had to be the most emotionally volatile woman he’d met in a long time. Frightening thought in some ways, but he liked his woman to have both the fire to stand up to him, and the mental strength to submit.
Summary:
Never venture out of bounds without a buddy–preferably two.
Xtreme Adventures, Book 1
Dara’s past four incredible years have been lived to the fullest. Along with her best friends, Kane and Jack, she’s left no local wilderness unexplored, no ski slope unchallenged. Yet lately she wonders why they’ve never seen her as more than a buddy with breasts. When—or if—either man will cross that unspoken line.
It’s a line Kane eyes harder every day. Since high school, he and Jack have shared everything. A condo, vacations—and their best girl. Kane’s ready to get serious about his wilderness school and outfitter business, and that includes putting down roots. Preferably with Dara.
Wary of the men who’ve recently been sniffing around Dara, Jack has a growing sense that he or Kane better make a move soon, or they’re going to lose out on their perfect match. Question is, who does she prefer…and who’s going to bring their easygoing trio to an end?
Overhearing the boys arguing over her, Dara’s floored—and torn. Choose between them? No way. Drastic measures are called for, a plan for their annual holiday getaway that will clarify her feelings once and for all—or lose everything in a sexual storm of whiteout proportions.
Warning: Old friends turned lovers can get into the most trouble—exhibitionism, bondage, spanking. Anal sex, oral sex, unauthorized use of ski safety harnesses, icicles in the hot tub…the author apologizes in advance for any melted monitors.
My Review
Even while I liked much in this story the trouble for me was that it all remained on the’ like-level’. I enjoyed what Vivian Arend dished out but I wasn’t emotionally drawn in. The crazy thing is though, and I’m calling it an x-factor; is to start reading Falling, Freestyle, was to finish it. Leave it up to Vivian Arend to not only give me personable characters but place them in a setting where wicked, wild and wanton are like the three musketeers! The good dose of humor and eroticism turns Falling, Freestyle in to a one sitting read where I just read on in order to find out how Dara, Kane and Jack would fare.
Vivian Arend’s writing voice is easy to absorb and does a good job of allowing the characters to create distinctive voices! Kane is a boob man, a traditionalist in bed and an utter romantic with some man-love issues that made me smile. Jack has got some kink in the bedroom, is a true-to-the-core adventurist and outgoing. Dara is audacious but also the girl next door and I couldn’t help but root for her when she boldly arranges a sexcapade, hoping it will grow in to something more.
Next to the unfolding of erotic play which was fun and hot like Vivian Arend knows how to write, the difficulties of a budding threesome provided some struggles. Dara gets to play out all her fantasies and pretty much has her mind set on her decisions but for Kane and Jack there are some obstacles. There were some surprises for me in who would struggle with what; like the man love issue or ménage commitment issue. Jack and Kane appealed to me in different ways but together they were an irresistible duo.
The friends to lovers trope provides a solid foundation where the characters already knew each other for quite some time and this was noticeable in their banter among each other. It was the dilemma of whether to take a risk with that incredible friendship that gave the story some edge. Still, throughout reading Falling, Freestyle the complications were kept to a minimum and the focus was more on exploring the new relationship dynamics.
Falling, Freestyle gives you a delicious sexy story to gobble up where humor and banter, along with passionate scenes, have the upper hand.
Quote how Jack is described:
His blond hair was hidden under a woolen toque with long braided ties hanging down on either side of his face. Combined with the rest of his features, the image reminded her of ancient Viking barbarians—beautiful, strong.
Dangerous.
Her guys, their faces glowing with health and energy. Drool-worthy Jack. Invigorating Kane. Daydream inducing—together or apart.
Jack came to his side. “Kane? Are you going through Dara’s bag? That’s dangerous. Women have killed for less—”
Kane held the now-open cosmetic bag and let the dildo show. The anatomically correct, life-sized cock made of some sort of purple-and-yellow-striped rubbery material. It was all he could do to not drop the thing back in her bag and race away.
“Fuck—I wonder if it glows in the dark.” Jack took the bag from him and peered intently at the thing.
Review: Is the cougar trope for me? Dee Carney - Keeping Pace
website author - facebook - goodreads - twitter - excerpt - buy
Genre: Contemporary, Cougar
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-60928-490-9
Length: Short Novel
Read a copy from my personal library
Cover Summary:
One spark could burn her world down.
Six years after her husband’s death, Regina Pace is still just going through the motions, her only pleasure a nightly glass (or three) of wine to dull the ache. Tonight is no exception—until a sensual outdoor encounter with her neighbor’s son, freshly home from college. He’s older, wiser, more devastatingly handsome than she remembered. He’s also fifteen years her junior.
Despite her misgivings, it isn’t long before her nightly ritual includes a long, deep drink of Josh Smith. Ogling leads to touching, then the sparks flare into an erotic encounter that feels wickedly right—and deliciously forbidden.
Yet the intense heat can’t burn away the doubt pestering the back of her mind. That the gap between their ages is too large, even for the most determined leap of faith…
Warning: Features a boy-next-door who won’t take no for an answer, more than one sexual fantasy (including some outdoor self-loving!), and a burning romance that proves age is just a number.
My Review
The story starts incredibly good where I instantly connected to the situation the first person narrator, Regina, finds herself in. Next to that I got treated to a sinfully sexy voyeurism moment where Regina ogles her next door neighbor satisfying himself. The beginning of flirtatious banter in their dialogues and the attraction simmering between them is something I enjoyed to the fullest. But somehow in those early stages of the story it’s where it piqued for me. After those initial few chapters it got harder to maintain that level of enjoyment as the story progressed. My thoughts just started to tumble from one irritation in to the next and I got to wonder if the cougar trope was something for me.
The first time I raised my eyebrows was when Regina couldn't make rhyme or reason with what she was doing with Joshua. Regina used her own doubts and fears as a reflection what the rest of the world would think so as well. This just didn’t make sense to me and at some point the back and forth between doubts and the attraction irked me as well. Joshua wanted to take it beyond the attraction. He was wooing her, he wanted to date and explore the depth of that attraction. I just wanted to encourage Regina on to, at least, take a chance on the guy!!
To some length the confusion was genuine; was it just lust or was there a budding of romance as well? Yet at various points Regina felt it was just a sex thing going on with Joshua. I saw Regina enjoy herself with Joshua, the conversations, the naughty going on sexy times, but I didn’t get the sense this was a budding deep and true romance. From Joshua’s side though, it was a serious as can be. I got that as well.
There was also a storyline with her friend and boss, Lou. What bothered me a lot was throughout the story Lou was coming on to her and she actually considered his advances. It added to the sense it wasn’t true love from Regina’s side. How can you consider dating another man if you are truly falling in love with another? It just was one more reason for me to feel a disconnection with Regina.
I also got confronted with actions where I didn't always like either Joshua or Gina. When drunk, Joshua was childish and unreasonable. Gina's actions made sure her opinion on keeping their relationship indoors was the way to go. The struggle of the age difference is a dire conflict between them but how either character deals with it sometimes gave me a flash of irritation. At the core they are genuine likeable characters but many actions detracted from that feeling.
Then I got to the point where Regina again made the choice that baffled me. She decided after only a month or so not be using condoms with Joshua. Regina wasn't on the pill, up till then I still didn’t have the feeling she was “in love” with Joshua and that’s the point I actually got frustrated. I mean; you don't even know if you're in this for the long haul but you chose to stop using protection as a sign to be closer to Joshua? And this couldn't have been expressed in a different way?
Then to finish this story I got to deal with the fact that first Regina is riddled with doubts and fears and then suddenly, like a switch, she is asked if she loves him and she says without a doubt; yes. That got me confused. It was too sudden with no progress whatsoever for Regina to come to that realization. I think besides certain actions that got me swinging back and forth between like and irritated the flow of the romance got me out of sync as well
Keeping Pace is a story where two characters lost me throughout their romance story. The sizzling sexiness and the sometimes incredible dialogues couldn’t override the feelings of disconnection and irritation.
Not just the flexing of his flat stomach but the rhythmic up-down motion of his arm.
I almost took a step back when my brain finally registered what it all meant. A small cry of surprise tried to spill from my lips, but I bit it back in time. Instead, I stood transfixed and watched an amazing specimen of human musculature move with an erotic beauty that took my breath.
But when life comes crashing down, he’s desperate to keep his new life. Can Brian do the unthinkable to remain in California when his money runs out? When Brian meets a beaten and bruised boy no one seems willing to help, he knows that walking away is no longer an option.
My Review:
!!Warning: This review could possibly contain spoilers if you haven’t read the previous two books; Enlightened and Abandoned!!
With her third book in the Little Boy Lost series J.P. Barnaby has managed to baffle me with its plot twists! Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined where the Little Boy Lost series would go but I found that I couldn’t tear myself away as Vanished revealed its storylines. At the beginning of Vanished there was no clue that by the end I would be reeling from the implications as events unfolded themselves. I thought the beginning was where the pace of storytelling was taken a notch down. Brian starts his bus ride to San Diego and it was a moment in the story where a bit or recapping was done. Hopes and dreams where still shiny and new, and it was a moment which made me eagerly anticipate the arrival of Brian in San Diego.
Once in San Diego the first priorities of Brian where procuring a place to rent and landing himself a job. It quickly leads him to Leo Horshiwitz who runs a boardinghouse and immediately the setting and its inhabitants piqued my interest. The two most personable characters where Mike and Emilio whose presence grew over the course of the story. Leo was the fatherly go-to person and his work in the GLBT Community Center added to that sense. There are a few more guys in the boarding house but Mike, who seemed the ultimate player just claimed me with his backstory. Emilio is this fun loving guy who is always in to party but small comments here and there just tugged at my heartstrings and make him so likeable.
At first though the story focused on Brian in his search for Jamie. Brian gives it his all and each time it was a dead end I felt the disappointment ride me just as hard as it did him. The doubt riddled moments where despair bloomed were hard to read. I didn’t want Brian to give up hope, give up on his quest, and yet I understood each and every shred of emotion coursing through him. I think the author did such an incredible job of imbuing layers of conflicting emotions next to relaying the internal dialogues of Brian! It forged such an intimate portrayal of a young man on the verge of change where I knew decisions had to be made.
Next to the whirlwind of steep emotions there was also time for developing new friendships, fun, laughter and exploring one’s horizon. The eroticism is scorching and Mike is part of why I went up in flames. He is sexually liberal and opposed to Brian’s rigid control and single-mindedness it gives humorous interplay next to the erotic one. The scene on the dance floor still gets me tingly and showcases a different side of Brian!! Besides that, the connection between the core group of characters is not only one of sexual appetite but also infused with a deep sense of friendship and loyalty.
Through the various events it enables emotions of doubts, blooming sensuality and joy to intertwine in an attention grabbing story. Brian allows me to go through it all but leaving me in the dark where he would end up. He was torn in two and then a situation developed that instigated heart-pounding plot twists. Never in a million years did I see certain things coming!! So while the story started out with an uneventful bus ride it ended up with me panting in shock. A good shock but still, it also made me realize this author could dish out anything for her characters and the most amazing part is, she made it understandable. And then, to add to my elevated blood pressure, she threw in another shocker that made me cry.
The range of feelings each Little Boy Lost novel triggers is amazing. There are no cardboard characters to be found. Each character comes alive via dialogue, quirks and quips. While I felt there was a sense of innocence to the previous two stories because Brian still was kind of innocent, his transformation is superbly done in Vanished. It gradually turned this story in to a gritty and provoking ending where all things are possible. Time and again J.P. Barnaby gives an emotionally rip-roaring story and it is the very reason I'm always asking for more!
With VANISHED, J.P. Barnaby will give you an absorbing intensity in storytelling, compelling characters and great emotional development. Next to this she managed to up the ante even more and give this series a twist that will catch many readers by surprise. Long may J.P. Barnaby write!
“Hey, Pete, who’s your little friend?” he asked with a leer. Andy’s arm remained around my shoulders, and he pulled me just a little closer. “He’s a friend of Leo’s; we were just going upstairs. Whatcha doin’ tonight, Mike?”
“Twins,” the man said as two younger guys, maybe even younger than me, walked out of the room looking a little dazed. The boys were identical except for their messy clothes. In simultaneous movements, they leaned over on each side of the guy and kissed him, one tangling his fingers in the man’s short brown hair, before making their way back down the hall the way we’d come.
“You’re something else,” Andy said, laughing as the naked man half shrugged.
“So I’m told,” he replied with a wink, and I couldn’t help but smile at him. His dark eyes twinkled with humor as they studied me closely. “Wanna find that out, baby boy?” Very slowly, Mike traced my lips with his finger.
Hello Blogfest peeps, whether you're an old friend or a newbie, welcome to my corner! I grabbed the chance to share a letter with you next to a giveaway that holds many possibilites *smiles*
Dear iPad,
We first met when I was on a date late 2010 with Janna, and I wasn’t sure if you would do it for me. But what haz a gurl got to do when you woo her with an app like iBooks? It was unlike anything I experienced! It looked like a book and when I touched the screen and made a swipe movement, it got the page flipped. I felt butterflies in stomach! Of course I first had to learn my finger to properly swipe. My fingers weren’t used to touch screen but since that day months ago they have advanced to master level :) Anyhoo, after that magic filled moment I forgot about you again – I know, I iz horrible – and yet on anther date with Janna, early this year, we had wireless internet. My inner geek was suddenly getting an overload on possibilities. I was like; I needs me one, NOW!!
But yeah, like all good things, you don’t come cheap but through lady luck you arrived and I entered your world. Suddenly I discovered all the more reasons to lurv you:
No. 1: I had my portal to my www everywhere…I have wireless internet. And that is an advancement from my PC, I can tell ya that.
No. 2: I got to read in iBooks – which got my groove on as a reader!
No. 3: I have twitter at my beck and call, no more back and forth peddling from couch to pc. Waking up at three in the night isn’t so hard when all I have to do is reach out and touch you to be entertained!
No. 4: I said to Janna; “Angry Birds, nah, why would I be interested in such a game.” Believe me when I say it is a game that has a high addiction level. The times the @#$%^&#$%^monkeys have been laughing at me is only fueling my need for revenge. The feeling of gratification when I kill them all with my birds is bliss. Ha take that monkeys!! *shakes fist*
No. 5: Flipboard – I can catch up on my Google/Facebook/Twitter/E!Entertainments & so on in magazine style. I love to sit down with a cup of tea and flip through all the info/news/gossip etc.
No. 6: I had to leave my mark on you and create a screen image :) Mine, your all MINE!! Mwwuuuahahahaha.
See here:
Okay, that was it for now Blogfest visitors. I’ve taken up enough of your time!
It’s giveaway time!!
Baffled by a Google+ invite contest
After a hectic day where I got battered by wind and soaked by down pours and found out I still have to write a blogpost for my blogfest entry, I got dumbstruck by a link that popped up on my tweetdeck. It showed the way to a post from Mashable where they stated:
Shortly after the launch, we offered invites to readers from our Mashable News account. The post had nearly 2,000 comments from readers who wanted to get on the new platform — more entries for a Mashable comment contest than we’d ever seen.
Now I know that contests are held for a range of items but uuuhhh, you're holding a contest, for an invite?? Doesn't anyone else strike that as weird? We have it, you want it, come and get it? Yeah, perhaps it is me and the whole google+ hype is passing me by. What so special about this new social media that everyone wants in? Is it the new place to be? Do all the popular kids hang out there which immediately propels us all to migrate...again? I just don't think it's the kind of thing to hold a contest over!
Link to full post: HOW TO: Get a Google+ Invite [CONTEST] I guess the contest was so good they're now hosting another one *rolls eyes*
Review: Jeff Erno - Trust Me
website author - facebook - goodreads - excerpt - buy
ebook, 366 pages
Published October 1st 2010 by Dreamspinner Press (first published February 21st 2009)
ISBN: 139781615815814.
Characters: Shawn Graham, Bobby Wilder
Book read from my personal library
Summary from Goodreads:
Shawn Graham and Bobby Wilder couldn’t be more different. Shawn is a devout Christian fundamentalist from northern Michigan; Bobby is a street-smart, latchkey kid from southern Ohio. From an early age, they are both confused and troubled by their attraction to the same sex. Shawn believes that homosexuality is sinful, and a traumatic incident of childhood sexual abuse adds to his guilt and shame. Bobby has an image to maintain and flatly denies the possibility that his same-sex attractions even exist. He's just too cool to be gay. When they finally connect, their preconceptions are suddenly dwarfed by what they feel for each other.
They become inseparable and fall deeply in love; however, love doesn’t make life easy. Plans are in motion that will surely devastate the young couple. Painful experiences of the past overshadow happy memories, and heartbreaking obstacles loom over the possibility of a future. If Shawn and Bobby want to stay together, they will have to fight with everything they have.
My Review
First Impression:
Can I just say; Wow! Trust Me is one of those books that popped up on my radar, refused to leave and delivered an unexpected mind blowing reading experience. I never thought I would be so drawn in to the lives of Shawn and Bobby but right from the bat, Jeff Erno managed to give these two boys a compelling voice. It’s a classic trope of ‘good boy – bad boy’ but it never fails to keep me enamored with the dynamics between the two types. The author takes the reader through the years where certain events occur in both Shawn and Bobby’s life that would affect the young men they would become in the present storyline. Layer upon layer the author brought two very distinct personalities to life who became fully fleshed-out characters by the time I reached the point where the lives of Bobby and Shawn interjected.
Bobby:
Throughout his life Bobby has been neglected by his parents who divorced when he was young. He had to take care of himself in which he developed a devil-may-care attitude, befriends the wrong kind of kids and basically goes his own way. That all changes when his mother decides a summer at his father’s might straiten him out. Bobby is this classic case of hard on the outside, soft on the inside. His loud-mouth actions speak against what goes on inside his heart but this defense mechanism has worked for him so long, it is hard to change. And this becomes the very fact why I loved Bobby so! The two opposites in him made him flawed but endearing.
Shawn:
Shawn also has his fair share of troubles to deal with as a kid. What I found so fascinating in him was his instilled faith in Jesus as his savior. How it affected his way of thinking, how it affected every action in his life and shaped the young man he came to be. He was this good kid, who did good things yet fear was an every slumbering part of Shawn that fueled certain thoughts and actions. Even though Shawn was a good kid this was no guarantee he wouldn’t encounter bad people or had to deal with horrifying events. There were at times where I thought Shawn was almost too good a kid to be real. Yet, as I read on it became evident that it was just an innate part of him as his faith.
The Story:
What I found absolutely mesmerizing to read was the fact how religion and faith clashed with thoughts and feelings. The gradual exploration of Shawn’s angst’s was gripping and his internal thoughts provided a very intimate connection to him. The gradual progress of Shawn coming to realize a few truths of his own by the time he neared adulthood was superbly done. ‘Bad boy’ Bobby shared some of those same fears but dealt with it in an entirely different matter and when push came to shove he took his feelings and acted on them. The relationship dynamics was not only done with realism, it showcased a very intricate synergy between the main characters, exposing their true natures. The connection that was irrevocably establishes so very early on only grew stronger with each shared moment. As the story progressed with heart rendering difficult moments it brought a poignant story to paper which I can re-read for many more times to come.
Jeff Erno manages to incorporate many topics in Trust Me; sexual abuse, divorce, religion, bullying, substance abuse, first love, first time sex. Sometimes things were repeatedly told throughout the story which stalled the flow of the story and it made me wonder why the author did that. Still, it simultaneously also emphasized on the balance between the good and bad in life. Some of the good was definitely the friendship turning in to a budding romance. It was sweet, endearing but also infused with angst and some very teenage lustful moments. The bad, oh, the author delivered on the bad by the end of the story. There were signs but my mind refused to acknowledge them and one specific momentum laid all the desperation and pain bare of various characters. It was the culmination of various story threads, of course choices had to be made, but it was a moment for me where I feared for the happily ever after.
Synonyms for Trust Me:
Emotional – heart-breaking – angst – great characterization – beautiful – tender & in-depth.
Final conclusion:
Trust Me is a story where Shawn and Bobby demanded my attention and sucker-punched me with what they had to say. Even though all the trials and tribulations will emotionally wring you out the HEA is absolutely worth it. This is truly a phenomenal coming-of-age story!
Wwwwhhheeeeeeelp, I need somebody!
To guide me through the jungle that is Wordpress. I know I'm making this decission to walk away from Blogger and directing my attention to the Wordpress platform. I asked this myself, nobody is forcing me to leave but *damn it* I want my wordpress blog *pumps fist* I have many of my daily to-go-to peeps blog on this platform and for quite some time now falling bit by bit for the stylized look and use. So as a bit of busy-bee therapy I decided to take the plunge. I bought a domain and hosting package...and this is where I crash and burn. The sight isn't pretty, I tell ya!! *eek*
Can I see I'm freaked out without everyone laughin in my face?? My ego today is as fragile as a thousand year old chines vase! Anyhoo, there are a couple of questions I seek answer to, or perhaps information if you have that. You see, I've been blogging for a few years now so what I was wondering is the following:
1: Is it better to first redirect my blogger blog to my domain and then eventually transfer from blogger to Wordpress or doesn't that matter in regards to google ranking and stuff?
2: I have the option at my hosting that I can directly upload the wordpress software via admin panel but can I play with that while my blogger blog is hosted on my domain?
3: What are the best themes to go with. When, at some point in the future, I'm used to Wordpress I'd like to dabble with my template. Which ones are the user friendly ones??
4: The freakin' google friend connect plugin. I can't seem to find it. I think I'm in need of a Wordpress GPS!! ;)
5: What are your most favorite plugins by which creators??
When I finally have my blog hosted on the Wordpress platform and everything is top notch I will look back, count the ten new grey hairs on my head and think it was worth it. I will call it an adventure and join the masses who loves Wordpress.
In the mean time, I look something like this:
I also want to mention Fiction Vixen has got an information post today about playing with Wordpress, the do's and don't.
A three course cover meal...YUMMY
This week I was spoiled again with a few covers that satisfied my appetite for fascinating or hunk-a-liscious covers.
The first course is a cover of Alyssa Day and I'll give you a link to where you can oogle it, cause it ain't a 100% finalized yet. It has beefcake, tats and tiger: it is the cover of The Heart of Atlantis *woohoo & purrrr* Isn't that just three kinds of sexy!! I love the cover of Warriors Of Atlantis! BTW, is the man candy oogling himself, or is that just me??
Now the main course is a cover that is a UK cover. I'm always surprised when a UK cover can tickle me pink but this one; oh la la *rawr* When Larissa Ione gave a shout out on twitter about this new cover in the Lord Of Deliverence series I stared at it for a few minutes. Jeez talk about a cover that appeals to the imagination. It's mysterious, powerful, sexy and definitely attention grabbing. I want to get to know this Eternal Rider, right here, right now!!
I don't know which UK cover artist created this but she or he is so my cover person!!!
Now the dessert and third course is a delicious one!! I actually woke up to Elisabeth Naughton's announcement of her cover reveal and yeah, I'm just going weak in the knees for a good mancandy cover!!
Enraptured is book four in the Eternal Guardian series:
As unrest in the Underworld threatens, seven warriors descended from the greatest heroes in all of Ancient Greece may just be mankind’s last hope.
Well, that's bound to keep me enraptured LOL
After such a fantastic three course I can only be fully satisfied and hope the stories will grab me as much as the covers did :))
Have a great weekend everyone!!
My Review
Inez Kelley’s Sweet As Sin is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve read in a while and all I can say as a reader is; Please can I have some more? It all begins with a helluva an opening scene involving titillating lingerie and an instant combustible chemistry between Livvy and John that singed the pages. The attraction between this man and woman was a live wire that sang of barely contained sexual hunger. Add Inez Kelley’s flowing and lyrical way of describing emotions and I was squirming in my seat throughout most of the story. The first chapter might instantly make me clamor for more but of that attraction simmering between John and Livvy held so much more in store for me.
While It was lust at first sight it was from this initial feeling that something profound and meaningful was born. The blend of personality, feelings, sensuality and struggles was voiced in such a poignant storytelling that there was no filter between the storytelling and me taking it all in. I was absorbed by the raw and potent connection between John and Livvy. It made me live all the highs and lows of the romantic development, it made me crave each new dialogue, each passionate moment shared, and each new page unraveling their story. Sweet As Sin could get me hot and bothered one scene, got me catcalling bow-chicka-wow-wow a second later, crying the next and let me laugh out loud a few pages later. This story draws on every imaginable emotion possible and I inhaled it all.
Even with an outstanding secondary cast of family and friends it is John Murphy and Livvy Andrews who claim, rightfully so, the spotlight. The complexity of John’s personality turns him in to such a fascinating character, one whom I couldn’t wait to unravel! When I got to meet his monsters, and got a taste of his dark side it was just heart breaking to read. Yet it is this very side of him that makes him so appealing and it elevated him from the standard issue leading hero material in stories. He is flawed but I got to know John in such an intricate way that I came to understand him. And ultimate fell head over heels for him. Even the short scenes from his book where his monsters came alive deepened the understanding of the man John was.
Livvy on the other hand has her own issues yet felt way more together than John. Livvy is a woman who is capable, puts lots of energy in her bakery but at times forgets to loosen up and have fun. I liked her initial resistance to be wow-ed by John’s charismatic personality but when she goes for it, she does so full force! She throws John out of his comfort zone, challenges him and it delivered an interplay where feelings reigned. The dance between John and Livvy was never boring! It was always moving with the emotion of the moment creating a mesmerizing synergy between a man and a woman. Also, Livvy in her own bakery is unadulterated sexy girl power! What she does with frosting, glitter dust and chocolate to drive John crazy makes me want to try out every recipe!
Two third in to the story and I was engaged, I loved, I squirmed, I laughed but the storyline was slowly cresting into a high-octane of bittersweet moments. Each page read added to the pile of Kleenex forming next to me on the couch. How could two people so intense together, hurt each other so? When I didn’t think things could get any worse, Inez Kelley dished out more for her characters to face. The pitfall of a convenient plot twists were also evaded and kept the outcome all the more emotion rife. Even while Livvy and John still have personal challenges to work on the ending was so beautiful, the romance hummed off the pages leaving me feeling readers bliss.
Inez Kelley’s writing style not only gave life to fascinating characters who you’ll instantly close into your heart, she also evokes every emotion imaginable! I inhaled everything this story had to offer and closed this book with a smile, a tear and a content sigh of romance fulfilled!
Quotes for you to sample:
“Haven’t you looked into his eyes, Andy? There’s no laughter there. None. It’s very dark and secretive and…dangerous.”
“I thought you were made for pure sin.”
“Sin, huh? That sounds…tempting.”
His look scorched her with pure sexual heat. The unbridled longing on his face warmed her blood and she slid her foot out of her shoe and found his leg. Her toes creeping under his pant leg elicited a deep noisy breath.
“Livvy, be careful. I’m not drunk tonight and tired of cold showers.”
“Me too.”
An angel with deep copper hair tempted him to believe he could have more. He told her one dark secret and she’d kissed him. Instead of fear, she showed him tenderness. The trust and grace she offered humbled him. Like water to a thirsting man, she created a loning deep inside him, a longing he’s never known. John wanted to belong to one person and one person alone. He wanted it with a voracious need that threatened to consume him. But what price would Livvy pay if he offered his blackened soul?
Love doesn’t shy away from fear. It erases it.
